Laser Crown Lengthening Procedures

The “crown” of a tooth is the part of cementation that is found on top of the gums. “Crown lengthening” is done when the tooth requires to be fixed with insufficient protrudes above the gum to support the crown under the given conditions below:

When the gum displays a cavity to fill up near the gumline as the filling falls out or gets destructed due to decay between the tooth and the gum.
To reconstruct tooth having cracks in the gumline or to decay found in the gum line and the gum is adjusted by moving upwards to the roots to maintain rigidity of teeth.
To visualize more tooth or to replace a fresh crown on a destructed tooth and to improve the appearance of teeth.
It is also performed in the cosmetic dentistry to give solution to a “gummy smile. In this case the patient has excessive gum tissues surrounding their upper teeth. This is treated by removal of excess gum tissues and bone in order to design a more pleasant facial look.

Process of crown lengthening

Crown lengthening treatment is executed under a local anesthesia by your periodontist. At the time of regular dental checkup, the dentist may find a cavity under the affected gum and the part will be passed on with sterile salt water and the gums will be stitched together. Then the surgical site may be covered with intraoral dressing.
The damaged area of the gum is chosen and contoured, removed away from the teeth utilizing both hand equipments and rotary instruments to clearly analyze the roots of the teeth and the around bone. Goal is to lengthen the appropriate teeth and create greater symmetry at the gum line.
Alteration of tissues and removal of bone around teeth has to be done to restore filling. The bone will be molded and gums be saturated returning back to its position. After healing of gum and bone around the teeth, sutures are taken away and drilled to be filled up.
